West Bengal Assembly Election 2011

WB Assembly Elections 2011 will be held in 6 phases.

 The first phase begins on 18th April and the final 6th phase ends on 10th May. 

1st phase on - 18.04.2011 for 54 seats

2nd phase on -23.04.2011 for 50 seats

3rd phase on 27.04.2011 for 75 seats

4th phase on 03.05.2011 for 63 seats

5th phase on 07.05.2011 for 38 seats and

6th phase on 10.05.2011 for 14 seats

The counting of votes will be done on 13th May (Friday)

CPM's youngest candidate has no asset

The youngest candidate in West Bengal Assembly election, Shatarup Ghosh of CPM contesting from Kasba constituency(The Left Front has fielded the 25-year-old student against seasoned Trinamool Congress candidate and sitting MLA Javed Khan) has no immovable or movable asset.In his affidavit filed during submission of the nomination, Ghosh said he possessed only Rs 308.90 -- Rs 250 in hand and Rs 58.90 in the bank. He has no property purchased or inherited.W

11 km trek up to Bengal's highest polling booth

Election officials have to trek 11 km up the Himalayan range over two days to reach West Bengal's highest polling station -- located at Sirikhola, 2,800 metres above sea level.The Sirikhola primary school polling booth, 99 km from this hill resort, has 778 voters mainly from the Gotkha community. On foot, it is 11 km trek northwest of Darjeeling town.B 

Separate booth for sex workers in Bengal polls

 The Election Commission has supported a move to have a separate booth for sex workers in Nadia district where polling will be held on April 23,2011.

Buddhadeb has no house, car; just Rs 5,000 cash

 West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee owns no house or vehicle, resides in a rented government flat and has only Rs.5,000 cash in hand. In affidavits submitted to the Election Commission while filing nomination as a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) candidate from Jadavpur, Bhattacharjee said he has no immovable property including farm land, non-agricultural land, and commercial or residential building in his own name nor has he inherited any property

His wife, however, has movable property worth over Rs.31 lakh - which includes bank deposits, jewellery and investments.However, his wife Mira Bhattacharjee owns a residential building in New Town area of the city, currently valued at Rs.15 lakh. The income details of Bhattacharjee and his wife given in the affidavits showed Rs.100,920 and Rs.670,135 respectively for 2009-10

 

WB poll: 1st phase 18.04.2011

 In the 1st phase of the assembly elections in WB covering 6 northern districts of West Bengal for 54 constituencies with 364 candidates saw a high turnout of 74.27 per cent with no major untoward incident reported. 

 

An estimated 97.4 lakh people are expected to vote in 54 constituencies across 6 districts - Coochbehar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Malda.Today's polls will decide the fate of 11 ministers in the Left Front government.Also the 1st phase is critical for the Congress as it will cover 27 of the 65 seats the party is contesting

 

WB poll: 2nd phase 23.04.2011

In the 2nd phase of the assembly elections in WB on Saturday, 50 constituencies with 93 lakh voters to caste their votes at 11,531 polling stations across 3 districts .The CPI-M has fielded candidates in 31 seats, while its Left Front partners in 15 seats; the TMC in 29; the Congress in 21 and the BJP is contesting in all 50 constituencies

 

 

WB poll: 3rd phase 27.04.2011

The third phase of polling in Bengal on Wednesday saw nearly 79 per cent voter turnout in the 75 assembly constituencies in 3 Districts.TMC supreme Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday cast her vote at Bhowanipore Assembly constituency where party candidate Subrata Bakshi is contesting. 

                                                                                             

 

 Streets wore a deserted look as public transport were mostly off the roads and shops and markets remained closed in the metropolis during the third phase of the assembly elections here and in the two adjoining districts on Wednesday.

 The fate of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta, Housing Minister Goutam Deb, Transport Minister Ranjit Kundu and nine other ministers was sealed in EVMs. Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee, Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, former FICCI Secretary General Amit Mitra and cinestar Debashree Roy were the other prominent candidates who contested in this phase.

 With three phases, election was completed in 179 of the 294 Assembly seats.

 Polling is on in Kolkata and the two districts of North and South 24 Parganas - areas where Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has dominated for three years now.
