As many as 46,13,589 voters, including 22,79,732 men and 23,33,844 women electors and 13 others, would exercise their franchise at 5,413 polling stations set up in the Nellore Lok Sabha constituency and 18 Assembly segments, spread over 12 districts in the State on Tuesday June 12,2012.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used at all the polling stations. Counting of votes will be taken up on June 15,2012

The By-poll is crucial for ruling Congress and arrested YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
For the YSR Congress, the by-elections marked by a high decibel campaign have become very crucial as it had fielded all 17 MLAs who had been disqualified for defying the Congress party whip in the assembly and their victory could be a threat to the Congress government, which is surviving with a razor thin majority.(As against the magic figure of 148 MLAs in the 294-member assembly, the Congress has just 151 MLAs at present)
