Atlantic Ocean

The Ocean’s name, derived from Greek Mythology, means the “Sea of Atlas.

The Atlantic Ocean is the second-largest Ocean(Pacific Ocean being the first)covers approximately 20% of the Earth's Surface and about 26% of its water surface area.Atlantic Ocean is approximately 41,100,000 square miles (106,460,000 square km)

Atlantic Ocean has by far the largest drainage area since the continents on both sides of the Atlantic tend to slope toward it, so that it receives the waters of a great proportion of the major rivers of the world.

The Atlantic Ocean occupies an elongated, S-shaped basin extending longitudinally between -
Europe and Africa  to the East and
The Americas to the West

The Equator subdivides it into the North Atlantic Ocean and South Atlantic Ocean.
