Indian Ocean


The ocean is named after the geographic location of India.

The Indian Ocean  is nearly 10,000 kilometres (6,200 miles) wide at the southern tips of Africa and Australia; its area is 73,556,000 square kilometres (28,350,000 sq miles)

The Indian Ocean is bounded by -
Iran,Pakistan,India and Bangladesh to the North
Malay Peninsula,Sunda Islands of Indonesia and Australia to the East
Antartica to the South and
Africa and the Arabian Peninsula to the West

The Indian Ocean provides major sea routes connecting the Middle East,Africa and East Asia with Europe and Americas.
