Red Fort(Delhi,India)


The Red Fort ( Lal Qil'ah or Lal Qila) is a 17th century Fort Complex constructed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan(5th Mughal Emperor after Babur,Humayun,Akbar and Jahangir)in the walled city of Old Delhi (in present day Delhi,India) that served as the residence of the Mughal Emperors and capital of the Mughals until 1857, when Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was exiled by the British Indian Govt

Red Fort covers a total area of about 254.67 acres. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, started construction  in 1638 and work was completed in 1648 (10 years)

Red Fort fort lies along the Yamuna River.

Red Fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007

From Red Fort the Prime Minister of India makes the Independence Day address to the Nation on August 15th every year.
