Dara Singh,The Legend ( Nov 19,1928 - July 12,2012)


Dara Singh(DOB Nov 19,1928)was born in village Dharmuchak of Amritsar, Punjab in a  Jat Sikh Family.
Dara Singh died on July 12 losing his five-day fight for life.Dara Singh was taken home from hospital on July 12 by his family members (after doctors determined he would not regain consciousness) so that they could be with him in the last few moments of his life


Wrestling Career

In 1947, Dara Singh defeated Tarlok Singh in Kuala Lumpur and became the Champion of Malaysia in Indian style wrestling.
After touring all far-east countries as a professional wrestler, he returned to India in 1952 and became the Indian Champion in 1954.
Also he became the Commonwealth Champion in 1959.
Dara Singh also competed against some of the most popular professional wrestlers in USA.
Dara Singh has nearly 500 professional fights to his credit,all undefeated.He is the only Professional who has defeated all his rival Champions in their home crowd.
 Dara Singh retired from wrestling in the year 1983, undefeated.His Last tournament where he announced his retirement was held in Delhi, Inaugrated by Rajiv Gandhi and the winning trophy was presented by Giani Zail Singh.

Film Career
Dara Singh was a wrestler before he started acting in Hindi Films in 1962.
Dara Singh was last seen in 'Jab We Met'(2007)


TV Career
Dara Singh has also done TV serials and is best known for his portrayal of Hanuman in 'Ramayan'.













Honour
Dara Singh won the title of 'Rustam-E-Punjab' and 'Rustam-e-Hind' for his wrestling prowess
Dara Singh was nominated to RS by BJP during August 2003 – August 2009
Family
From his first marriage, he has a son Parduman Singh Randhawa and from his second marriage he has five children two sons and three daughters including Vindoo, a TV-film actor.


Sickness
Dara Singh was hospitalised on Saturday July 07,2012 in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai and is now undergoing dialysis.
"His kidneys are not functioning the way they should, so we have to put him on dialysis," Ram Narain, COO, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, said
