Al Jazeera calls for global support of staff



Al Jazeera is calling for a Global Day of Action to demand the immediate release of four of its journalists who have been locked up in Egypt's prisons for months.

All 4 were detained on December 29, 2013 taken from a hotel, and were accused of spreading false news, and belonging to a "terrorist group."

They stood trial on February 21,2014

The trial was then adjourned to March 5,2014


Al Jazeera hopes through the attention of the world’s media and partners, pressure can be brought to bear on the Egyptian authorities to hasten the release of Peter Greste, Mohammed Fahmy, Baher Mohamed and Abdullah Al Shamy by reminding them in a united voice, that journalism is not a crime," the media network said in a statement issued on Wednesday Feb 26,2014

People in more than 30 cities will express their solidarity and support on Thursday Feb 27,2014 with public events taking place in Sydney, Manila, Islamabad, Doha, Amman, Nairobi, Ankara,  Berlin, London, Rio, Montreal, Washington DC and San Francisco
