Narendra Damodardas Modi was sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister of India as the soft light of dusk bathed the magnificent edifice of Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 26,2014 Monday evening

Along with Narendra Modi, 45 other ministers took the oath of office in his Council of Ministers on Monday May 26,2014

His Cabinet will have 24 Cabinet Ministers, 10 Ministers of State with Independent Charge and 12 Ministers of State.

Narendra Modi, wearing a pastel sleeveless jacket and full-sleeved off-white kurta, read his oath of office and secrecy in Hindi on the dais in the gravelled forecourt, followed in order of seniority by the 45 members of his leaner-than-usual Council of Ministers. 

Rajnath Singh was the second minister to be sworn in, followed by Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and M. Venkaiah Naidu, the top four members of Team Modi. 

Key allies Ram Vilas Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party, Shiromani Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur, Ashok Gajapati Raju of the Telugu Desam Party and Shiv Sena's Anant Geete also got a place in the Council of Ministers

Neither L.K. Advani nor Murli Manohar Joshi found a place in the new Natrnfra Modi Cabinet

Both the oldest, Najma Heptulla(74) and the youngest member Smriti Irani(38) are women.

Most of the ministers come from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra – the three states that helped the BJP get a majority on its own

Five of the BJP's 11 alliance partners who won Lok Sabha seats, have been included in the council of ministers for now. They include Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP),Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Parkash Singh Badal's Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Samata Party.

Uttar Pradesh, which sent 71 BJP members to the Lok Sabha, has the largest representation in the Union Council of Ministers - nine

Maharashtra has 7 ministers; it sent 42 MPs belonging to the BJP-Shiv Sena combine to the Lok Sabha.

There are two ministers from north-eastern states, both BJP leaders - Sarbananda Sonowal, who has been elected from Lakhimpur in Assam, and Kiren Rijiju, who won from Arunachal West

There are two ministers who are not members of either House of Parliament - Prakash Javadekar and Nirmala Sitharaman. They will have to be brought into the Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha in the next six months. 

Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Kerala and the soon-to-be-created Telangana have no ministers in Team Modi.

Within seconds of Narendra Modi taking oath as tehe 15th Prime Minister of India on Monday, the PMO website was relaunched carrying his picture and profile.

He added, "Together we will script a glorious future for India. Let us together dream of a strong, developed and inclusive India that actively engages with the global community to strengthen the cause of world peace and development."
