In full capacity, the MCG can easily host nearly a hundred thousand spectators. It wasn't quite full on Sunday (February 22), but only by a little. The official number was 86,876 - a good 2000 more than what turned out when Australia hosted England on February 14,2015  - 84336 spectators

The legendary Sachin Tendulkar was in the ground to see India in action against South Africa on Sunday.
India broke their "Proteas jinx" with an sensational win against South Africa at the MCG on Sunday. Batting first, India posted a solid 307/7, thanks to the exploits of Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane. Dhawan slammed his seventh ODI tin while Rahane tore the South African bowling apart with a belligerent 79 Runs (in 60 Balls with 4x7 and 6x3)
Shikhar Dhawan
The Ton scored by Shikhar Dhawan is his 7th ODI Century and all the tons have come in a winning cause

Shikhar Dhawan, who made 73 Runs against Pakistan on Feb15,2015, put on 127 Runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli (46) and 125 for the third with Rahane (79 off 60 balls)Vs SA on Sunday Feb 22,2015

"I would say those people who were asking why Shikhar was there in the World Cup squad, they don't know their cricket. He committed some mistakes during the Test series against Australia. He got the starts but got out due to mistakes. But now against Pakistan and today, he was fabulous. He did everything right today, in his approach, shot selection," said  Ravi Shastri

Not often you find fielding among the top three bullet points contributing to an Indian win, but Sunday was different. Not only did India field well, they out-fielded a side known for throwing itself around on the park to save 15-20 runs every match.
South Africa got a taste of their own medicine as Indian fielding surprised them and effected run-outs of two of the most dangerous Proteas batsmen - AB de Villiers and David Miller - while inflicting a 130-run hammering
Shikhar Dhawan, who regained his form in the World Cup, treated South Africa's bowling attack with disdain scoring 137 Runs(in 146 Balls with 4x16 and 6x2) - the highest individual World Cup score against South Africa

Two matches into India’s title defence,Shikhar Dhawan is playing like "who said I was out of form,"

A 76-run win over Pakistan, followed by the huge 130-run hammering of South Africa. This is the stuff of champions

Mohit Sharma (2/31 in 7 overs), Ravichandran Ashwin (3/41 in 10 overs) and Mohammed Shami (2/30 in 8 overs) kept the opposition batsmen under tight leash for better part of the innings

By beating two major teams - Pakistan and South Africa back to back after two winless months in Australia, India have shown how much defending the World Cup crown means to them

This was India's maiden World Cup win against South Africa after having lost the clashes in 1992, 1999 and 2011.

Wayne Parnell recorded the worst figures of 1/85 off 9 overs with consolation wicket of Dhawan. Vernon Philander's (0/19 in 4 overs) injury also did create serious problems for the Proteas when Indian top order went all guns blazing.
