The Sinhalese Sports Club Ground will host its 41st Test match when Sri Lanka take on India in the second Test. The SSC is now tied for the top spot along with the National Stadium in Karachi for most Tests played at a single venue in Asia, although it must be kept in mind that Pakistan has not hosted a Test match since 2009. The next Sri Lankan venue to have hosted the most number of Test matches is the P Sara Oval, again in Colombo, which has hosted 21 matches.
2) Sri Lanka's most successful Test venue
The SSC Ground has witnessed the most Sri Lankan victories in Tests – 19. Given a cut-off of 10 Test matches, the SSC is the venue where Sri Lanka have their best win-loss ratio in Tests of 2.714.
3) Cheteshwar Pujara to play 50th Test match
Cheteshwar Pujara is set to become the 31st Indian cricketer to reach the milestone of playing 50 Test matches for the country when he takes the field in the second Test. The last time Pujara played on this ground, in 2015, he made a sensational comeback to the Indian team by scoring an unbeaten 145 while opening the innings and carried his bat through the innings. He has had an outstanding 2017 so far, having managed to score 710 runs in 6 Test matches at a staggering average of 71.00.
4) Pujara could become third fastest Indian to 4000 Test runs
If Pujara gets 34 runs in the 1st innings, he will become the joint third fastest Indian to 4000 Tests runs, Virender Sehwag (77 innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (81 innings). He will equal the record of Rahul Dravid (84 innings) if he reaches the 34-run mark.
5) Virat Kohli to play 100th Test Innings
Indian captain Virat Kohli will play 100th innings when he comes out to bat in India's first innings. He has scored 4603 runs so far at an average of 50.03.
