India Women's veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami becomes the first female cricketer to take 200 ODI wickets Wednesday Feb 07,2018

India’s veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami on Wednesday Feb 07,2018 added another feather to her illustrious cap by becoming the first female cricketer to take 200 ODI wickets.

Goswami achieved the feat during the second ODI between India and South Africa in Kimberley.

The 35-year-old, playing her 166th ODI, dismissed opener Laura Wolvaardt for her 200th scalp.
Interestingly, the first male cricketer to pick 200 ODI wickets, was also an Indian — the great Kapil Dev.

In May 2017, Jhulan went past Australia’s Catheryn Fitzpatrick’s tally of 180 wickets during the Quadrangular series at Potchefstroom against South Africa — the then most wickets by a Women bowler in ODIs.

With another year, Jhulan achieves the milestone mark while playing against the same team in the same hosting nation.

She took 166 ODIs to complete her set of 200 wickets, which makes Jhulan joint 5th fastest Indian to reach this landmark across genders.

Not just first to 200 ODI wickets, Jhulan also becomes the first ever women cricketer to achieve the double of 1,000 runs and 200 wickets in Women ODIs.

Going by both men and women players, Jhulan becomes the 20th cricketer to achieve this rare double in ODIs and 4th from India after Harbhajan, Kapil and Agarkar.

Previously, 19 men cricketers have achieved this feat.

Among Indians, Jhulan equals Kapil’s record of 2nd fastest to 1,000-run and 200-wicket double in ODIs in terms of matches played.

Goswami, hailing from a small town called Chakdaha in Nadia district of West Bengal, made her debut way back in 2002.

She was also adjudged ICC Women Cricketer of the Year in 2007
